Dr. Venkatraman Memorial Trust Service to God
Doctor Venkatraman memorial trust was established based in the footsteps of legendary Dr R Venkatraman. Fondly called RV, he had done outstanding social work in medicine. These include establishing one of the earliest surgical hospitals in this part of India, orthopaedic care for patients, home elderly care, etc. His contribution to the treatment and eradication of smallpox can’t be described in words.
Along with doctor K Venkataraman, he did leprosy screening and treatment at the doorstep in various villages, bringing down the prevalence of leprosy and eradicating leprosy complications. Dr Venkatraman promoted at-home corneal eye donation, for which late president doctor APJ Abdul Kalam felicitated him.
The doctor Venkatraman memorial trust was established to provide people with high-quality, affordable eye care. First, in 2017, we started outreach camps to deliver primary eye care to the people in villages. Soon we extended our services to the screening of school students.

In 2019 free eye hospital was established at Kumbakonam along with the Hindu mission hospital. This hospital now caters to poor patients by providing a complete eye care facility. These patients are given surgical treatment at Dr Arvind Vision Care hospital. The cost of cataract surgery for a patient is Rs 3500 ($50 ), inclusive of an intraocular implant, for Phacoemulsification surgery.
Many patients benefit from government schemes for Retina Surgery, Corneal transplants and some eye malignancy since the procedures are free of cost under the schemes. The trust has helped screen more than 50000 students and more than a million people in the Thanjavur district and Thiruvarur, Mayiladuthurai, Nagapattinam, Thiruvallur, and Kanchipuram. Many school children have been provided glasses free of cost.
